What is HypnoBirthing?


HypnoBirthing® is as much a philosophy of birth as it is an approach for achieving a satisfying, relaxing, and stress-free birthing. By learning how to achieve a state of self-hypnosis (deep relaxation), mothers teach their minds and bodies to birth easily. You will gain confidence in your body's ability to birth, free of the interference that fear creates.

HypnoBirthing teaches how to attain deep levels of relaxation in order to eliminate the fear that causes stress hormones, known as catecholamines, to be released. These catecholamines constrict uterine muscles, can cause pain and tension in the body, and slow labor. In the calm state achieved through HypnoBirthing®, your body is free of fear so endorphins, called Oxytocin, flow throughout your body. Oxytocin is a chemical produced by the brain that has tested to be more powerful than morphine and plays an integral role in uterine surges. When the body is free of fear, you are able to bring your baby into the world without hard, physical pushing. Instead, you use your body's Natural Expulsive Reflex and lessen, or even eliminate, discomfort and the need for medication or other medical interventions.
